• The genes which code for folded ears also cause bone and joint deformities (1). All Scottish Folds have orthopaedic problems triggered by osteochondrodysplasia.

  • Bone deformities include stumpy legs, a short back and knobbly joints. Some cats cope well despite their deformities. There is no cure, but there are several treatment options to improve quality of life (2).

  • On average, cats with stumpier tails have more severe deformities and the hindlimbs are more affected than the forelimbs.
